Paul John is het merk waaronder de vestiging van John Distilleries in het Indiase Goa single malt whisky uitbrengt. Deze Paul John Christmas Edition 2020 is al de derde speciale kerst release uit India: “Each year is a gift and Paul John delivers“. Paul John is niet aan zijn proefstuk toe want, sinds de start in 1996, hebben ze nu al 12 single malt expressie’s op de markt gebracht. En wist je dat hun gerst – barley – geteeld werd aan de voeten van het Himalaya gebergte?

De Paul John Christmas Edition is een limited edition uitgave van deze Indiase distilleerderij. Hij rijpt in eerste instantie op bourbonvaten en ondergaat daarna een finish op ex-Oloroso sherryvaten. Daardoor krijgt deze Indische whisky een vol, maar toegankelijk karakter waarin onder andere lagen aan lichte rook, gedroogd fruit en noten opvallen.
Paul John Christmas Edition 2020 is een single malt whisky met een gouden kleur: “our whiskies have no artificial colours or added flavours and are all non chill-filtered“. In de neus komen fijne aroma’s naar boven van zoete honing, gepaard met sinaasappelschil en je proeft ook zoethout met romige donkere chocolade.
En bij de afdronk krijg je de smaak van geroosterde noten. Paul John Christmas edition 2020 heeft een alcoholpercentage van 46% ABV. Een exotische smaakbom met een vleugje rook dus.
